THE Police Command in Edo said it would ensure strict compliance with the 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. restriction of movement during House of Assembly election in the state on Saturday.

Spokesman of the command, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, disclosed this on Wednesday while briefing newsmen on the preparations of the command for the election.

Nwabuzor said that it was observed that during the Feb. 23 Presidential and National Assembly polls, residents in the state did not comply with the restriction order.

He, therefore, said that it would not be business-as-usual on Saturday as any defaulter would be made to face the full wrath of the law.

He also said that the command would maintain the security arrangement and deployment of personnel as done with the just-concluded polls.
The spokesman stressed that Saturday’s election was very important as it was grassroots-oriented, being one to elect candidates into the state’s legislature.

He disclosed that security agencies in the state were on red alert to deal decisively with any electoral offender.

He said that some grey areas where card readers were damaged and ballot boxes snatched during the last election had been identified in Ubiaja, Igueben in Edo Central and Iguobazuwa in Edo South.

Nwabuzor said that some suspects had been arrested in connection with the incidents and would soon be charged to court. (NAN)
