THE candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Enugu East Senatorial Zone, Chief Lawrence Eze says the outcome of the Feb. 16 National Assembly election in the state will be mind boggling.

Eze said this on Tuesday in Enugu while speaking during an interface between members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)  Enugu State Council and NASS candidates in the state.

He said that the forthcoming elections would be a true test of the acclaimed popularity of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

The APC candidate said that he was not oblivious of the challenges as a new entrant into the senatorial race, adding that he was well prepared to face his co-contestants.

Eze said that he was in the race to make the difference in his senatorial district which had some of the most backward Local Government Areas in the state.

“Most of the senators that have represented us in the past are what I call ‘urban senators ‘. They care less about those in the hinterlands,” he said.

He said that as someone from one of the rural communities in the senatorial zone, he would focus on opening up the remote areas, thereby, giving the people of such areas a new lease of life.

Eze said that he was the most qualified of the candidates seeking to be elected to represent the zone in the Green Chambers, adding that some of the candidates in the race were living on past glory.

He said that as a private individual, he was able to fund the asphalting of 4.5Km of road with street lights in his Mburumbu community in Nkanu East local government area of the state.

He said that no fewer than 500 secondary school students and a few tertiary institution students were under his scholarship.

“In the history of Enugu State, I am the only one who has constructed a 4.5km of road with full complements of street lights.

“We also have been able to connect communities to the national grid,” he said.

Eze said that the people of his area lacked most basic infrastructure and were constantly tagged as the most backward in the state.

He said that it was an irony that those who had given them such tag had not done any meaningful thing to lift their people from their unfortunate condition.

“Rather they keep dictating for us who our leaders will be. They want us to be perpetually deprived,” he said.

He said that his senatorial district was poised to witness a positive turn around with his election, adding that he was not intimidated by any of the candidates vying with him.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that other candidates that spoke during the event included Mr Toby Okechukwu (PDP) representing Awgu, Oji River, Aninri Federal Constituency, who promised to consolidate on the achievements he had recorded in the past eight years of being in the Red Chambers.
