The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has accused members of the opposition of dividing Nigeria.

According to a statement on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Communications, Hakeem Bello, the minister made the allegation while inspecting the Loko-Oweto Bridge and a road that connects Nasarawa and Benue states.

Fashola told residents of the area that if members of the opposition had built the road while they were in power, there would have been unity.

He said by investing in infrastructure renewal, President Muhammadu Buhari was creating wealth and securing the future of Nigeria as well as building a solid foundation for employment and prosperity.

He said, “Work continues here. If you hear those people (opposition members) tell you that the country is divided, tell them they divided it.

“If they had built this road, there would have been unity. This road unites two traditional rulers, the Ada Agatu of the Agatu Community of Oweto in Benue State and the Mai Loko of the Loko Community in Nasarawa State. It is uniting farmers.

“So infrastructure is the basis for national unity. It brings people together, it brings prosperity. It is the foundation for jobs, agriculture and industry. Very soon, this road and bridge will connect and unite Nigerians forever irrevocably.”

Fashola, who had earlier inspected projects in Anambra and Benue States, told residents Loko and Oweto communities that, “President Buhari has demonstrated commitment to infrastructure renewal, building roads and bridges like the Loko-Oweto Bridge, Loko-Oweto Road, Enugu-Otukpo Road, Township Road in Otukpo, Second Niger Bridge and Federal Secretariat in Awka.”

The minister described infrastructure as an unfailing foundation of unity, adding that it serves as the most dependable fortress against tomorrow’s bad weather and fluctuating oil prices.

“Once you invest in what the President is doing, that is what creates wealth, that is what secures the future, that is the foundation for wealth, for employment and for prosperity,” he said. – Punch
