Ekiti State Government has begun a refund of money paid by traders for the occupation of the new ultra-modern ‘Oja Oba’ Market in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.

The traders had paid for shops and space in the market which construction was begun by the Mr Ayodele Fayose’s administration. But his successor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, who said the market was defective and required additional work, consequently stopped work on it and ordered a refund to the traders.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Industries, Mr Kayode Abe, disclosed on Tuesday that the refund had begun, praising the governor for the timeliness of the exercise.

Abe said, “The governor gave the prompt directive on the refund consequent upon the structural defect discovered at the market which government intended to put in order before re-allocating the market stalls.

“Government is ready to give the people of the state a state-of-the-art structure that will stand a test of time,” he said.

One of the traders, Mrs Cecilia Adebayo, praised the governor for “government’s timely intervention on the refund” and appealed for speedy completion of the project. – Punch
