FEDERAL Ministry of Health on Wednesday in Abuja commenced 2019 Third Quarter National Health Promotion Forum (NHPF) meeting toward developing new National Strategic Plan for Health Promotion.

The Director of Family Health in the ministry, Dr Adebimpe Adebiyi, also the head of the Forum, said that the meeting was to foster discussions on appropriate approach or approaches to adopt for development of the National Strategic Plan for Health Promotion in the country.

She added that the new plan, when fully developed, would provide guidelines for effective implementation of the Revised National Health Promotion Policy.

She explained that the revised Policy was approved by the 62nd National Council on Health meeting recently held in Asaba.

She reiterated Federal Government’s determination to continue to provide purposeful leadership as far as health promotion was concerned.

Mrs Ladi Bako-Aiyebusi, the Head of Health Promotion Department in the ministry noted some of the laudable achievements of the forum to include the development of template for partners mapping, development of draft advocacy brief for health promotion programming.

Others are finalisation of the Social and Behavioral Change strategy for the National Integrated Maternal Newborn Child Adolescent and Nutrition (IRMNCH+N) and integration of key malaria prevention strategies into IRMCH+N material.

She noted that the meeting would focus on findings from the surveys on situation of health promotion programming carried out in 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

“It is hoped that the findings will provide direction to the content of the proposed National Strategic Plan for Health Promotion,’’ she said. (NAN)
