A Civil Society Organisation, Prince Harrison Ehimeyen Foundation, has urged political parties to support the ‘Not-too-young-to-run’ law, as it would give the youths the opportunity to contest in the 2019 general elections.

Mr Gabriel Benjamin, the Executive Director of the foundation, gave this charge on Wednesday in Benin during an awareness campaign to drum up support for the bill.

According to him, the law will encourage interest and reduce cost for nomination form for youths, who do not have money to contest in elective positions, and political parties.

Benjamin explained that many of the youths across the country, were ready to take the mantle of leadership from the present crop of political office holders, but had no financial muscle to do it.

He said that the essence of the rally was to create awareness that the youth be given the opportunity to represent the people at the various elective positions.

“We are using the medium to reach out to the various political parties, to support the law on not-too-young-to-run, as recently accented to by President Muhammadu Buhari.

‎”The youth should be given the chance to rule, as Nigeria youths have the capacity and competence, many youths are ready to assume leadership.

“We are calling on all political parties to support youths across board and give them tickets to represent their people come 2019,” he said. (NAN)
