NATIONAL Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) on Friday said that the freezing of Benue and Akwa Ibom accounts by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was undemocratic.

The Senate President of NAPS, Mr Adekanbi Sunday, said this in a statement in Abuja.

Sunday stated that if EFCC suspected state governors of fraudulent activities, they should be handled as individuals and not the entire states.

He noted that “NAPS, being the umbrella body of students of polytechnics, monotechnics, colleges of education, technical and other allied institutions awarding National Diploma and Higher National Diploma condemn this act.

“We are not happy with the unlawful and undemocratic freezing of the accounts of Benue and later Akwa Ibom state governments.

“To this effect, the leadership of NAPS hereby issues 72-hours ultimatum starting from Friday, Aug. 10,
2018 to unfreeze the account of Akwa Ibom Government or face protest.

“If this is not done, we shall mobilise students to EFCC headquarters on Wednesday, Aug. 15.”

The association commended the acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, over the sack of
Lawal Daura, former Director General of Department of State Service (DSS), noting that the barricading of the entrance of the National Assembly complex on Aug. 7, under Daura’s watch was unconstitutional.

The student’s body added that “Osinbajo’s prompt action would serve as warning to other impunity undertakers in the country.” (NAN)
