THE Nasarawa State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it has secured the conviction of 17 traffic violators at a mobile court in Nasarawa Eggon.

The Sector Commander, Mr Ahmed Mohammed, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lafia, said that the Magistrate, Abimbola Buzu, convicted 17 motorists out of the 31 arraigned for 52 offences.

Mohammed listed the offences to include overloading, driver licence violation, route violation, dangerous driving, among others.

The Sector Commander, who said he was personally at the venue of the trial, vowed to continue to reduce the number of road traffic offences in the state via aggressive public enlightenment and ensuring that violators were not spared.

“I have said it and will say it again, things must change in terms of reduction in road traffic violations. I will do everything within my capacity, guided by law to see to that,” he said.

Mohammed added that the mobile court sitting was part of the command’s efforts towards curtailing the spread of Coronavirus (COVID -19) via the enforcement of social distancing with regards to vehicle overloading.

He called on motorists to obey traffic rules and cooperate with FRSC in its bid to promote a road safety culture. (NAN)
