THE Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Enugu State has sought the continuity of the existing harmonious relationship between the command and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Corps Commander Kalu Ogbonnaya, the Sector Commander in the state, made the call in Enugu on Wednesday when he paid a courtesy visit to the State Coordinator of NYSC in Enugu, Alhaji Ahmed Ikaka in his office.

Ogbonnaya said there had been a cordial relationship between FRSC and NYSC ever since the State Coordinator of NYSC assumed control and would not want his tenure to be an exemption.

“I have come here today to further strengthen and cement the already existing relationship that has existed between FRSC and NYSC and which our command has continuously benefited from.

“Whichever state I am posted to, my first point of call is always the NYSC because it gave me the career that has made me to become whatever I am today.

“If you recollect, when FRSC was first established, the first set of recruits were Corps members and I was part of the first recruit and so, I owe this scheme a whole lot and would not want to jeopardize our harmonious relationship with it,” he said.

The sector commander also appreciated the NYSC State Coordinator for the projects he had embarked on aimed at taking the scheme to an enviable height in Enugu State.

Responding, the State Coordinator of NYSC in Enugu State, Alhaji Ahmed, thanked the Sector Commander for placing much value in the scheme.

He described NYSC as the `beautiful fowl’ that had been laying eggs of different sizes and shapes that had continued to hatch different products but which a lot of people have failed to realise it’s worth.

Ikaka appreciated the work FRSC had been doing in terms of ensuring a road free accident especially at a period when cars that were either road worthy or not are now many.

The NYSC boss pledged the corps’ continuous support to FRSC adding that the scheme would never relent in providing needed support to the command.

He said that more corps members would be encouraged to join the FRSC Community Development Service (CDS) group to assist in sensitizing against reckless driving and to achieve its given mandate of ensuring an accident free road. (NAN)
