GOVERNOR Willie Obiano of Anambra has called on traditional rulers in Anambra to promote peace within their communities.

Governor Obiano made the call on June 13, while officially opening the 7th Summit of Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council at Council Hall, Government House, Awka.

In his address to the summit with theme: “Governor Obiano’s Landslide Electoral Victory And The Making Of A United And Greater Igbo Nation’’, the governor thanked the natural rulers for their immense support during his re-election.

He praised their contribution in sensitising and mobilising their subjects to perform the civic duty of re-electing him for a second term.

Obiano urged the royal fathers to promote peace and use it as a tool to unify people of Anambra and Igbos in general.

He, then, urged them to eschew such vices that might jeopardise the safety and security of their communities and the state.

The council lauded the governor for his great achievements in education, agriculture, security, rural development and road construction.

In a speech on their behalf, Alfred Nn’emeka Achebe, chairman of Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council and the Obi of Onitsha,  (Agbogidi) praised the governor for achieving `gargantuan feat’ in his first term and expressed his belief that the second term would even record more.

According to Achebe, Obiano has set the pace in the delivery of the dividends of good governance.

“His vision and achievements speak volumes of his commitment toward building lasting legacies in Anambra State.’’

The guest of honour and Amanyanabor of Opobo Kingdom in Rivers State, Dandison Douglas Jaja, applauded the peaceful coexistence among communities in Anambra.

He hailed the good relationship between the governor and the traditional rulers.

The Amanyanabor tasked the Royal Fathers to take advantage of the peace and security in the state to enhance unity among all communities in Anambra and beyond.

He thanked the governor and Ndi Igwes for inviting him to such an auspicious occasion and prayed for the success of the governor’s second term in office.

Earlier in his remarks, Nnia Nwodo, president of Ohaneze Ndigbo,  expressed delight at the warm reception accorded Ohaneze during the South East Summit that heralded the popular “Ekwueme Square Declaration’’.

He declared that Obiano’s efforts and achievements had fostered unity and made Anambra State the pride of Ndigbo and truly, `the Light of the Nation’.
