ANAMBRA State Government has assured that the road from Nkwo Market, Enugwu-Ukwu to the Onitsha-Enugu Expressway under construction will be completed before rainy season.

The deputy governor, Nkem Okeke gave the assurance when he paid a visit to ascertain the level of work done at the construction site.

He expressed satisfaction at the completed earthwork, saying that about 70 per cent of the road had already been completed.

The deputy governor stressed that the remaining part currently at the stone base level would be asphalted within two weeks.

“I am happy at the progress made; I have also pointed out a few areas that the contractor will need to look into. There are still some work to be done,’’ he noted.

Okeke said that the project had been fully funded and when completed, the people of Enugwu-Ukwu and their neighbours would begin to use the road.

“I believe that the people of Enugwu-Ukwu will do the needful during the March 9, election,’’ he said.

He, then, called for continued support for Governor Willie Obiano and the need to vote APGA in the State House of Assembly election.

Okeke noted that the remaining three years of the Obiano administration would record more infrastructure developments across communities.

“Infrastructure is key to development; we must ensure that roads are provided for people in the rural areas.

“Also connect farm settlements to urban areas, in order to promote agricultural businesses

“More roads will be constructed, as well as road parting, to ensure roads are stabilised to guarantee free movement within the state,’’ he added.

A staff of the company handling the construction, Emmanuel Okolo said the road, approximately six kilometres long would go a long way in solving some challenges.

He commended the state government for making funds available, while promising to bring the construction to its final stages soon.
