Uchenna Okafor, the Anambra State commissioner for Transport, has promised to apply strict measures in regulating Tricycle operations at Regina Ceali and Unizik junction, Awka.

“I will apply strict measures in decongesting and maintaining sanity in their operations on road sides,’’ the commissioner said in an interview.

The commissioner noted that these operators abandon the spaces created for their operation at both Regina Ceali and Unizik junction and occupy a chunk of the main road, thereby disrupting free-flow of vehicular movement.

“Even when we force them back to those spaces during enforcement and after a few days they surge back to the main roads load passengers.

“Some of the spaces given to them are usually taken over by petty traders,” Okafor said.

According to the commissioner, both junctions will wear new looks by next week when our enforcement patrol team will visit the areas.

He added that bad portions of the road at Unizik junction will be refurbished to enhance free vehicular movements during rainy season.

He urged road users to ensure that their vehicles would be in good working condition to avoid road crashes and loss of innocent lives.
