The Coordinator, Agbekoya Peace Movement of Nigeria, Lagos State Chapter, Comrade Adekunle Akinlosotu, said on Monday that peace was needed to ensure free and fair elections in 2019.

Akinlosotu made the remark in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) during the group’s monthly meeting in Lagos.

According to him, the movement is to make sure Nigerians live in harmony, in any part of the country.

“Many things are happening in Nigeria today that are unheard of in the history of the country.

“Nigeria is the only country we can truly call our own.

“The Agbekoya Peace Movement aims to ensure peace all over the country, most especially in the South-West.

“The group will work with states and local governments and the security agencies to ensure that peace reigns supreme in the country.

“We want to use peace to nip any trouble in the bud.

“The many evils beclouding the nation today, like Boko Haram, the herdsmen and farmers disputes and kidnapping, require the intervention of this movement.

“We will be collaborating with states and local governments as well as vigilance groups in areas where we have members, to make sure that peace reigns supreme in such communities,” he said.

Akinlosotu said that membership of his group was open to all Yorubas in any part of the country, adding that new members were usually screened thoroughly, before being admitted.

“We believe that he who comes to equity must come with clean hands,” he said.

Akinlosotu said that the movement had tenets and a philosophy that guides its members.

He said that the officials would connect with the states and local governments to create peace in all aspects of the nation’s life.

Akinlosotu stressed that the group was always out to ensure that it contributed its own quota to national security, in all its activities. (NAN)
