A HUMAN rights group in Nigeria, the Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice, CHRSJ, has advised the wife of the President, Aisha Buhari to go and submit herself for investigation in the United State of America over the mindboggling Halliburton case scandal so as to help her husband in the current tempo of fighting against the menace of corruption. The group urged Aisha) to travel to America for clearance of her name in the scam.
CHRSJ faulted the defence of Ibrahim Larmode, former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on the identity of Aisha Buhari, describing him as agent of corruption, who has been accused of diversion of about recovered loot from former Inspector General of Police, Taffa Balogun, former Bayelsa State governor, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha and others. It described Lamorde’s position on the allegation concerning President’s wife with regards to the Haliburton scandal as untenable and unacceptable to the public and International community.
It will be recalled that the name of one Aisha Buhari has been the subject of controversy in the Halliburton scam for over two years now, which American authority had jailed an ex-U.S. Congressman, Williams Jefferson for 13 years, adding that the recent claimed of Ayo Fayoshe Ekiti State governor, in the wake of freezing his personal Account domicile in Zenith Bank should not be taken with levity because the governor said the controversial Aisha Buhari was President Buhari’s wife and this development called for concern on the posture of current administration in its fight against the menace of corruption in the nation.
It also faulted the support of the Senator Representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Senator Buruji Kashamu of the Presdient wife, saying Senator Kahsamu was a bird of the same feather with controversial Aisha, adding that Kashamu lacked moral right to defend any Nigerian alleged of corrupt practices until he submitted himself for thorough investigation on the series of allegations leveled against his person by the United State of America on drug related offences.
A statement issued by Adeniyi Sulaiman, CHRSJ’S Directorate of Media and Research which was made available to Realnews on Thursday, maintained that the non-clearance of the Wife of the President in the Halliburton scam would be the monumental sabotage and credibility problem to the effort of Buhari’s administration in the fight against the corruption in the land, noting that if one was preaching equity, such person should come with clean hand.
Sulaiman therefore urged President Buhari to develop the strong “political will” to direct the anti-graft body (EFCC) to probe the funding of his(Buhari) 2015 Presidential election and as well make their report public and failure to do so, will amount to the victimisation of political opponents in the current fight against corruption.
According to the group, it is against this background that CHRSJ was calling for immediate and unconditional release of those arrested in connection with the how former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan funded his (Jonathan) 2015 Presidential election because “what is good for goose must also good for the gander”.
The group said, “After a wider consultation on the controversy surrounding the wife of Nigeria President, Mrs Aishat Buhari being named in the Halliburton scandal. We want to tell the Presidency not to ignore or wave the allegation of involvement of President Muhammadu Buhari’s wife on the Halliburton scam because the message and messenger have been playing an important role in the current administration in Nigeria. Only denial of the allegation on Halliburton by Presidency cannot exonerate the President’s wife from the scam because the Aishat Buhari in question has denied her involvement in the Halliburton scam. America Government will not jail her citizen and be watching one Aisha Buhari from Nigeria, living in the shore of their land and involved in such scam without being jailed alongside her citizen, it means there is missing link somewhere.
“Now, that the Aisha Buhari in question, had denied her involvement in the scam. Who is then the fugitive Aisha Buhari of Halliburton scam? This high time for President Buhari to allow his wife, Mrs. Aisha Buhari to travel to the United State of America (USA) for two weeks so that she can clear her name in the Halliburton scandal in order to give credibility to the current war against corruption of her husband government. If Presidency failed to do the needful at this material time, this singular scam may consume the anti-corruption fight of the Mr. President by making it loses credibility in the land and beyond”.
Sulaiman who also doubles as chairman, Civil Societies Coalition for the Emancipation of Osun State, CSCEO,) called on the present administration under the headship President Buhari to develop the “strong will” by commencing the total investigation into the Halliburton scandal so as to lay the scam to rest once and for all. It also advised the EFCC not to drop their investigation into the alleged financial impropriety in the Zenith Bank domicile Account of Ayodele Fayo, according to the law of the land and the anti-graft agency should not hesitate to make their finding open to the public so as to regain their credibility.
