The Coalition of United Political Parties on Wednesday asked the Independent National Electoral Commission to ignore court orders infringing on its constitutional right to conduct elections without restraint or interference.

It said any court order that tends to stop INEC from carrying out its legitimate duties are “Idi Amin kind” and are null and void.

The coalition’s spokesman, Imo Ugochinyere, said this in a statement in Abuja in its reaction to a court order that asked the electoral body to stop the collation of governorship results in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

Ugochinyere also called on Nigerians to stand up to condemn judges who he said were allowing their courtrooms to be turned into “a courtyard for unleashing judicial treason.

He urged the National Judicial Commission to discipline such judges, who he claimed, have joined the All Progressives Congress “to walk into this political dark path.”

He said, “It’s time for the Bauchi State Governor to concede defeat as it is clear all over for him.

“The results of Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area have been finally collated and as expected, he could not survive the peoples’ onslaught against him.

“It is strange and funny that a loser will go to a court, and within 20 minutes purchase an illegal injunction in a manner similar to buying KFC’s chicken wings to halt the announcement of an election results he lost even when the law forbids issuance of injunction against any ongoing electoral process (voting and result collation/announcement).

“Section 87(10) of the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended) provides that nothing can empower the courts to stop the holding of party primaries or general election or the processes thereof.
