Mr Samuel Nwanosike, the Chairman, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State has expressed his administration’s resolve to tackle cultism and kidnapping in the area.

Nwanosike, the newly elected chairman, made the pledge on Monday while reacting to the recent arrest of some suspected kidnappers in Ozuaha community.

According to police reports, nine hostages were released in the process of arresting the two suspects in their hideouts.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some communities in the area were reported to be involved in cult and kidnapping activities.

“It is time for us to say no to evil; we will approach this move with utmost sense of direction, commitment and vigour.

“That you belong to any political party is no excuse; that you are related to a highly placed political or government official is also no route for escape,’’ he said.

Nwanosike commended the Police for their courage and gallantry in the process of arresting the suspects and subsequent release of their hostages.

He urged residents of Ikwerre communities to support the government and law enforcement agencies in the move to tackle these ugly menace.

“Security should be our collective responsibility; as a people, we must provide information that will expose crime within our domains,’’ he said. (NAN)
