THE Vice President of India, Hamid Ansari, has called for greater economic cooperation between his country and Nigeria, to enhance the economy of the two countries. Noting that India was Nigeria’s biggest trading partner, Ansari, stated that the two countries have common aspirations to improve the socio-economic status of their citizens.
The VP said this during the inauguration of the chancery of the Indian High Commission on Monday in Abuja. Ansari, who was accompanied on the visit to Nigeria by his wife, Salma and other officials, explained that he would sign various bilateral agreements with the Federal Government.
The VP stated that India and Nigeria had come a long way as former British colonies, noting that the Asian country contributed immensely to Nigerian education sector, stressing that this cannot be forgotten.
“The contributions of Indian teachers in different parts of Nigeria, educating the citizens, will never be forgotten. The Nigerian armed forces have also benefitted from the defense institutions in India; the Nigerian security forces have enjoyed and are still enjoying training programmes in India.” – Punch
