THE governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress in Ogun State, Gboyega Isiaka, has accused some ad hoc officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission of involvement in various levels of compromise, which in turn prevented the electoral process from reflecting the will of the people during the governorship and House of Assembly elections held last Saturday.

Isiaka said the 2019 general elections in Ogun was largely driven by money and power, adding that vote buying had compromised the electoral process in the state.

He said, “The 2019 general elections has been a further draw back on our political revolution in Nigeria. The will of the people did not really matter because some politicians and political parties were buying people’s votes so that their political will would not count.

“Votes were openly bought as if people were in the open market. INEC officials were involved in various levels of compromise and so the election cannot be termed a fair process.

“Even the masses themselves no longer have confidence in the electoral process. They have lost faith in their leaders and therefore, want to take what they can get from those contesting in elections.”

He added that the low voter turnout during the governorship and House ofb Assembly elections in Ogun was due to a rumour alleging that the APC and the APM were planning to use thugs and security agents to influence the electoral process.

He said, “We are not going to join speculative results that indicate that the APC candidate is leading. We shall wait until the official results are announced by INEC. If you compare the number of those that voted during the presidential and National Assembly elections to last Saturday’s elections, you would observe that many people came out to vote.” – Punch
