Bishop of Christian Central International Chapel in Calabar, Cross River State, Emmah Isong, on Tuesday advised that the Independent National Electoral Commission should play a major role in the conduct of party’s primary elections and nomination of candidates.

Isong spoke against the backdrop of various conflicts trailing the outcome of primary elections and nomination of candidates by the Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress.

The Bishop, who is also the National Publicity Secretary of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, said the development indicates that there is no internal democracy nor adherence to due process in political parties.

He said this in a media parley on the state of the nation and part of activities to mark his 54th birthday.

He said, “As such, there is a need for the Independent National Electoral Commission to be given a major role in the nomination of parties’ candidates to ensure internal democracy and adherence to due process.”

“The crisis rocking political parties, particularly the two major political parties, APC and PDP shows that there is no internal democracy in their ranks. The leaders are selfish and always aiming to impose their wish and choice over that of the majority.” – Punch
