THE Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Thursday warned motorists against over-speeding and reckless driving as the Federal Government relaxed the restriction on inter-state movement.

Mr Babatope Agbaje, Badagry Unit Commander, FRSC, gave the warning at a one -day sensitisation campaign organised by the command at the  Nigerian French Village, Badagry.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the sensitisation campaign was tagged: “Reopening of Interstate Border; Not a License for Reckless Driving.”

The FRSC official advised the motorists to sustain the observance of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) protocols as they go about their normal businesses.

Agbaje further urged the motorists to pay special attention to their health and shun the temptation to overstress themselves while trying to make up for the deficiencies of the lockdown.

“Now that the Federal Government has relaxed the inter-state movement, we are here to advise motorists to drive safely on the highways.

“They should not take this relaxation for the chance to make up for what they have lost during the lockdown.

“Drivers should avoid reckless driving and over-speeding on the highways because this is rainy period,” he said.

Agbaje also raised concerns over the bad state of vehicles plying the roads and advised motorists to pay attention to the maintenance of their vehicles.

Also speaking, the Director-General, Nigerian French Language Village, Prof. Babatunde Ayeleru, advised drivers to apply caution while on the roads.

He stated that bad roads do not cause crashes but bad driving attitude.

Mr. Mufutau Ayinde, a commercial driver, commended the FRSC for the enlightenment, describing the topic as apt.

NAN reports that FRSC officials were seen distributing fliers and advising motorists to drive safely on Badagry expressway as part of the campaign. (NAN)
