Kano State Govt. to establish Open Government Partnership desk office in MDAs

KANO State Government is to establish desk office in all Ministries, Departments and Agencies to ensure effective implementation of Open Government Partnership order (OGP).

Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje gave the assurance while inaugurating the Steering Committee and launching the State Action Plan on Open Government Partnership in Kano on Friday.

Ganduje was represented by Alhaji Usman Alhaji, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

The governor said that the state government was committed to ensuring full implementation of the Open Government Partnership (OGP) principles in its reform agenda.

He said that all MDAs and other public institutions in the state would be mandated to establish an office and appoint suitably trained officials as Open Government and Access to Information Officers, to ensure effective implementation of the OGP order.

He said that the recent signing of the OGP Executive Order was part of the renewed effort to combat corruption, improve transparency and accountability in governance.

“Kano State joined the OGP to deepen institutional reforms, fight corruption, grant citizens’ right of access to public records and information and to enable citizens to effectively participate in governance.

“The joining of the OGP is in line with the Federal Government’s effort toward the fight corruption, hence the decision to be very committed to the project.

“We also made it clear that our administration will be up and doing to making sure that our government is transparent, accountable and committed to fight against corruption and other societal ills,” Ganduje said.

NAN reports that the 17-member OGP Steering Committee is being co-chaired by the state Chairman, Anti-Corruption Commission, Mr Muhuyi Magaji and Hajiya Halima Ben Umar, a member of one of the Civil society organisations in the state.

The event attracted various stakeholders including representatives of various Civil Society Organisations (CSOs). (NAN)
