THE umbrella Socio-political organisation of Ndigbo, the Ohanaeze has berated Abubakar Malami, Nigerian attorney general and minister of Justice for applying to the court for the revocation of bail conditions given to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People’s of Biafra, IPOB.

The Ohanaeze said, in a statement, signed by its John Nnia Nwodo, president general, titled ” Attorney-General of the Federation, Please Respect Your Oath of Office” that they are surprised that the attorney general is prepared to contest the superiority of the provisions of the constitution on fundamental human rights of freedom of movement and freedom of association over an erroneous judicial proclamation violating those rights.

“I am equally miffed by the audacity with which the attorney-general displays his bias without regard to his oath of office”

The Ohanaeze boss noted that just within the week, the chairman of the Northern Governors Forum and in total defiance of the Head of State’s proclamation of the rights of a citizen of Nigeria to live anywhere in Nigeria and to do business anywhere in Nigeria, the Arewa Youths, pretending to withdraw their quit notice gave qualifications to the Head of State’s proclamation, issuing conditions for enjoyment of citizenship status.

“And these same Arewa Youths are supposed to have been arrested on the orders of the Governor of Kaduna State and the Inspector General of Police for acts of treason, conversion and sedition.

“Nnamdi, as a citizen of Nigeria, is free to hold any point of view no matter how displeasing to anyone so long as they are not inciting or provoking any criminal activities” Ohanaeze insisted.

Nwodo noted that even though he and some Igbo leaders have differences of opinion with Nnamdi on a number of issues and have even been insulted and abused by Radio Biafra but we concede them their right to differ from us.  We concede them their nature to be exuberant as Youths but we cannot be judgmental about their rights.

The statement urged the attorney general to note that “In democracies leaders are abused, pelted with rotten eggs and booed at, as the former Edo State Governor was booed in Abuja a few days ago.  These acts are not necessarily criminal”

Nwodo finally advised the “Attorney-General not to exacerbate our already tense nation by commencing a legal action which portrays him as biased, insensitive and misdirected”

Below is the full statement  of the President General’s statement.
ATTORNEY-GENERAL OF THE FEDERATION, PLEASE RESPECT YOUR OATH OF OFFICE!!

It has just been brought to my notice that the Attorney-General of the Federation has approached the courts to incarcerate Nnamdi Kalu for flouting his bail conditions.

I am amazed that the distinguished attorney is prepared to contest the superiority of the provisions of the constitution on fundamental human rights of freedom of movement and freedom of association over an erroneous judicial proclamation violating those rights.  I am equally miffed by the audacity with which the Attorney-General displays his bias without regard to his oath of office.

A few hours ago under the watchful eyes of the Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum and in total defiance of the Head of State’s proclamation of the rights of a citizen of Nigeria to live anywhere in Nigeria and to do business anywhere in Nigeria, the Arewa Youths, pretending to withdraw their quit notice gave qualifications to the Head of State’s proclamation, issuing conditions for enjoyment of citizenship status

These same Arewa Youths are supposed to have been arrested on the orders of the Governor of Kaduna State and the Inspector General of Police for acts of treason, conversion and sedition.  As the Chief law officer of the Federation the Attorney-General looks the other way.  He does not go to court to seek an order of arrest or prosecution.

Nnamdi, as a citizen of Nigeria, is free to hold any point of view no matter how displeasing to anyone so long as they are not inciting or provoking any criminal activities.

I and some Igbo leaders have differences of opinion with Nnamdi on a number of issues.  We have been insulted and abused by Radio Biafra but we concede them their right to differ from us.  We concede them their nature to be exuberant as Youths but we cannot be judgmental about their rights.

This is a democracy.  In democracies leaders are abused, pelted with rotten eggs and booed at, as the former Edo State Governor was booed in Abuja a few days ago.  These acts are not necessarily criminal.

I urge the Attorney-General not to exacerbate our already tense nation by commencing a legal action which portrays him as biased, insensitive and misdirected.

CHIEF JOHN NNIA NWODO

  1. I am not in sny way surprised at Nwodo’s own insensitivity of JlKanu’s violation of his bail confitions the very week he was set free. The Attorney-General has been too slow in acting. He ought to have done this the very week Kanu was released from detention. Nwodo claimed Kanu has been insulting them and have been tolerating him. You can tolerate his insult on Igbos but the rest Nigerians cannot and should not tolerate his stupidity and his disrespect for the law of the land. If Ohaneze fails as they have always done for those who promote their Biafra interest, to call Kanu to order, they know very well he has been violating his bail conditions, it is preposterous for Nwodo to be reminding the Attorney- General of his oath of office. Nwodo ought to have since called the Attorney-General to order for allowing Kanu to bold-facely violate his bail conditions. Why does Nwodo think he is wiser and more knowledgeable about respect for oath of office? This has been the lots of the Igbos – always thinking they know more than the rest of us in Nigeria, shouting when there is no need for it, accusing the northern youths while festering and accommidating and possibly funding the illegalities of IPOB. Kanu’s plan to disrupt Anambra and the 2019 elections and his claim of possession of nuclear weapon Nwodo and his Ohaneze do not see it as terrorist intent and therefore ought to have since called for the arrest of this stupid Kanu of a boy. The Attorney-General should not mind Nwodo’s vetuperations and should pursue the legal process to rearrest Kanu and when this is done, he should lock the boy in the dungeon and throw the keys into the Lagoon.
