THE Lagos State Government today hosted a stakeholder’s forum on Contract Formation, Disputes Avoidance and Resolution to chart a way forward in ensuring proper project implementation.

In his address at the event, Adeniji Kazeem, Lagos Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, disclosed that the forum would provide an opportunity where all parties involved in project execution for the State Government can bring their challenges to the fore, discuss them and chart the way forward.

‘It is expected that this Forum will engage in the discourse that will proffer solutions to the challenges bedeviling contractual relationship between Government and the Contractors’.

He said the mission statement of the Economic Empowerment and Development plan of the Akinwunmi Ambode Administration is to achieve a vision of poverty eradication and attain sustainable economic growth through infrastructural renewal and development.

The Attorney-General stated that the State Government, like every other government in the world, engages the expertise and knowledge of people/institutions in the private sector to bring about this infrastructural renewal and development through commercial agreements with contractors, noting that this is achievable with the formalization of various commercial transactions which include Contract Agreements, Consultancy Agreements, Concessions, Memorandum of Understanding etc.

‘This Forum is important because our roles as a government and contractors are critical to the well-being of the average Lagosian. It is important because the good people of Lagos trust us to provide the necessary facilities to make living in Lagos State easier’, Kazeem added.

The Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice Funlola Odunlami, in her remark, said the forum is significant as it will educate and enlighten the populace on the subject matter.

She explained that the Forum has been put together to ensure that those who undertake and are saddled with the responsibility of monitoring these projects on behalf of government come together to brainstorm in order to have a clear understanding and ensure assignments are better executed and goals achieved.
