THE Lagos State Government (LASG) has warned the public to desist from converting industrial premises to other uses, saying that such was illegal and not permissible.
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr Idris Salako, said on Monday that industrial premises were primarily places of economic and productive activities.
Salako in a statement said that such premises were expected to provide employment opportunities and grow the economy of the state.
“The Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development has noticed with dismay the continuous and illegal conversion and use of industrial premises for other purposes.
“These include: the conversion of industrial premises to places of worship, event centres and other non-complementary uses.
“The general public is hereby informed that all non-complementary facilities such as places of worship and social-related activities are not permissible within industrial estates in the state.
“This is in consonance with the Operative Development Plans and relevant sections of the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit and Building Control Regulations (2019),” he said.
The commissioner said that appropriate sanctions would be applied against violators of these regulations.
He said that the industrial estates affected by the directive include: Ikeja, Ilupeju, Apapa, Oshodi, Mile 2 Amuwo, Ikorodu, Epe, Orile Iganmu and Oregun Industrial Estate.
Salako solicited the continuous support of all residents in the state in sustaining the industrial estates as hubs for job creation and economic prosperity. (NAN)
