PROMINENT Nigerians, including Rep.  Abiodun Olasupo(ADC-Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa), have lauded  Mrs Folasade Agoro-Braimoh for empowering no fewer than 150 windows in Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the London-based philanthropist, who hails from Iseyin, had returned to Nigeria for the programme held at Silver Palace Hotel Hall in the community.

NAN also reports that the annual Folagade Agoro-Braimoh (FAB) Grassroots Widows Support Programme was established by Agoro-Braimoh  in 2013 and operates in Ibadan as well as  Iseyin and Itesiwaju Local Government Areas.

Olasupo, at this year’s edition, described the initiative as a life-impacting one, saying the best way to impact on the society was to empower women.

“I have always advocated this because the best way to alleviate poverty in our societies is to empower women.

“  I commend her for taking this  step further to the widows  who are far more vulnerable,” he said

Mr Ishaq Folorunso, the Proprietor of  SAF Polytechnic,  Iseyin, commended Agoro-Braimoh for supporting widows annually.

He urged all well-meaning Nigerians to emulate the initiative.

Some of the beneficiaries also commended the initiator of the programme, praying God to continue to bless and replenish her.

Mrs Adenike Gbadamosi and Mrs Roseline Adebayo, described the gesture as one which must be emulated, promising to make judicious use of whatever support was given to them.

Earlier, Agoro-Braimoh stated that the programme was targeted at widows to enable them to attain their goals.

“I initiated this programme in 2013, considering what my mother went through in raising us as a widow.

“ It started as a door-to-door programme. Then, we knocked  at the doors to deliver financial support to them.

“Having discovered that the programme needs a veritable platform, we then decide to make it more popular to reach as many as people possible within communities,’’ she said.

She stated that the empowerment programme had attained lofty heights with support given to 120 widows in 2017.

“ This programme has two categories. We have those who go home with stipend ranging from N5,000 to N8,000, while some others get a minimum of N5,000  to develop their various businesses,’’ she said.

She commended President Muhammadu Buhari over the Conditional Cash Transfer Programme, urging the government to also focus more on job creation.

NAN reports that the event was attended by the initiator’s mother, Mrs Adenike Agoro, as well as representatives of traders and artisans. (NAN)
