LG boss calls on FG to help check erosion menace in Idemili south, Anambra State

A CALL has gone out to the federal government to help in controlling erosion menace in Idemili South Local Government of Anambra State. Don Unachukwu, the transition chairman of the local government council, made the call at LGA council headquarters, Ojoto during the 57th Independence Day anniversary celebration.

He pleaded with the FG to step in to help in erosion control, saying that the federal Ministry of Environment had earlier promised to give their assistance but had yet to commence work at these erosion sites.

“In the spirit of independence celebration, we want FG to help us because we have a lot of active erosion sites in this local government.

“Their control has gone beyond our reach and that of the state government.

“Sometimes ago, delegates from ministry of environment came to access the situation, we showed them such places at Ojoto, Nnobi, Alor and other communities that were worst hit,’’ Unachukwu said.

The chairman urged every Nigerian to participate in nation building as the good image and name of the country was a collective responsibility of everyone.

“We must resolve to work together for the common good of the country. Nigeria is a fine project and work in progress.

“However, Nigeria at 57 has not achieved her full potential. The nation’s image must be salvaged by making it corruption free,” Unachukwu said.

According to him the fact that the country still remains one, calls for celebration adding that those calling for break-up are doing so because they feel short-changed.

Alex Ufondu, Ohamadike Alor and Edwin Umeghalu, the president-general, Ojoto Akanesato Union in separate speeches said they believe in one Nigeria and celebration of Independence Day.
