THE Edo Chapters of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) on Wednesday pledged continued support for the Godwin Obaseki-led administration in the state.

The unions said their members would, therefore, vote candidates that would support the developmental efforts of the  administration during Saturday’s House of Assembly election.

Leaders of the unions gave the assurance when members of their Administrative Council visited the governor at the Government House, Benin.

The state Chairman of NLC, Comrade Emmanuel Ademokun, thanked the governor for worker-friendly policies and programmes.

He pledged the union’s  support to ensure that candidates who would support his administration’s development agenda would be elected on Saturday.

’’You have done enough for workers in the state,  and they cannot thank you enough.

‘’We get our salaries as and when due; you are paying salary arrears, and  we have gone around the local government areas  in the state and saw your foot prints,” the NLC chairman said.

Addressing the workers, Obaseki said, as long as he would  remain the governor of the state, no worker in the state civil service would lose his or her job.

He gave the assurance that his administration would continue to prioritise the welfare of workers and pay the new National Minimum Wage when  legalised.

Obaseki appealed to the unions  to  support candidates of APC in the Saturday’s election to enable his administration to continue with development initiatives.

“I will not retrench any worker; instead, I will train them just as I did for teachers,” the governor said.

In his vote of thanks, the state Chairman of TUC, Comrade Marshal Ohue, thanked the governor and assured him that workers in the state were  behind him.

The unions presented their local government executives from the 18 local government areas of the state to the governor at the event. (NAN)
