UNDIE Adie, the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, has assured voters of adequate security during and after the House of Assembly election scheduled to hold on Saturday.

Adie gave the assurance during a political stakeholders’ and religious leaders’ meeting on Thursday in Akure.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that only the House of Assembly election will hold in the state on Saturday.

The police boss said that during the forthcoming House of Assembly  election in the state, all the polling units would be adequately covered and adequate security provided.

“Beyond the provision for the polling units and booths, we have other strategic deployment adequately covering the state.

“The police shall respond rapidly and very promptly to any untoward situation that may arise anywhere in the state by security agencies.

“We want our people in the state, especially politicians, to conduct themselves in a good and peaceful manner without any rancour, fight, and violence so that the election will be violence-free.

“And also our politicians need to talk to their wards and supporters, to conduct themselves in an orderly and peaceful manner during and immediately after the exercise,” he said.

The commissioner applauded political stakeholders for ensuring that the Feb. 23 Presidential and National Assembly elections in the state were violence-free.

He said that there would be restriction of movement on Saturday between 6am and 6pm.

“I want to use the occasion to remind us that during last exercise there was restriction of movement and this one is not going to be exceptional.

“That same restriction put in place in the last exercise, will also take effect on Saturday, from 6am to 6pm.

“This must not be flaunted.  Any person who flaunts it shall be liable to arrest and possible prosecution. We should safely conduct ourselves in orderly manner and obey this simple rule.

“The restriction is just for one day and once we are able to abide by the rule, I believe that coming Saturday election, shall be violence free,” he said.

One of the participants, Engr. Clement Faboyode, the State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), expressed appreciation to the Nigeria Police Force for ensuring that there would be no crisis emanating during the election.

“I want to thank security agencies in the state for the last election in the way they managed security issues professionally.

“They were able to maintain law and order and provided level play ground for the every parties.

“For the coming election, I want all the security agencies to do same so that the election can be free, fair and credible,” he said.

NAN also reports that political leaders, religious leaders as well as National Union of Road Transport Workers signed a peace accord during the meeting. (NAN)
