The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi on Tuesday said that there was delay by the contractor handling the train stations at the ongoing Nigeria Rail Modernisation Project.

Amaechi, disclosed that the contractor, the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), has not made much progress in the past three months.

While inspecting the Ebute Meta train station in Lagos, Amaechi said that not much has been achieved since he inspected the site three months ago.

According to him, the contractor should start from areas that have no challenges to make the progress faster on the stations.

“The work is very slow, three months without doing anything. You are terribly delaying us, why can’t you start building stations in the areas that there is no problem,” he said.

The Project Manager, Tang Xiao Dong, said that the delay was due to late approval of the project sites and the initial shift of the station because of water pipes and problem with the track design.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a total of 10 stations will be constructed at Apapa, Lagos, Agege, Agbado, Kajola, Papalanto, Abeokuta, Olodo, Omi- Adio and Ibadan station. (NAN)
