THE Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism in Nasarawa State says it has achieved a lot in the past one year, and envisages higher feats with a solid partnership with the state’s legislators.
“We have been able to promote a digital economy to generate more revenue; we have kept members of the public steadily informed and fully mobilised to support government programmes and policies,” the commissioner, Mr Dogo Shammah, said on Monday in Lafia.
Dogo, while presenting the ministry’s 2020 budget performance to members of the House of Assembly Committee on Information, said that the ministry had also promoted culture and tourism.
“We also visited media houses to promote cordial relationship between government and members of the fourth estate of the realm.
“The ministry has also visited tourist potential sites in a bid to prepare briefs on measures to develop them to revenue generating sites.
“We have also overhauled the Isa Kungar cultural troop for effective service delivery in view of its international appeal,” he said.
Shammah said that the ministry created an awareness campaign against COVID-19 in order to curtail its spread in the state and the country at large.
“We also plan to have a monthly ministerial briefing and media parleys to project government’s policies and programmes,” he said, and craved the committee’s support to enable the ministry achieve even more.
Responding, Alhaji Mohammed Omadefu, Chairman, House Committee on Information, said that the budget assessment was not a witchunt.
“The legislators only want to know how the ministry performed in the year under review so as to address any challenge, if discovered,” he said.
He described the ministry’s performance as “credible and encouraging”, and urged the commissioner to sustain the tempo.
Omadefu promised that the legislators would support the ministry to achieve even more so as to make Nasarawa a model others would seek to emulate.
