NDIGBO Lagos Foundation, NLF, has condemned the massacre of worshippers at St. Phillips Catholic Church, Umuezekwe, Ofufe, Ozubulu, Anambra State, in the early hours of Sunday, August 6, 2017.

In a press statement signed by Tony Eze, director of Communications, NLF, Lagos the group extended its heartfelt sympathies to the survivors and to the families of all the innocent members of the congregation who lost their lives in the “despicable, dastardly and extremely lawless act.”

It said further: “The attack is another example of the terrible consequences of greed, unbridled ego and an extreme case of a total lack of morals, conscience and human sensibilities in Igboland.

“Unfortunately, such act of lawlessness and godlessness have become the new essentials in our communities, as greed and unbridled push for money now double as the new norm.  Ndigbo Lagos frowns at this and calls for a major moral shake up across Igbo communities. We stand in solidarity with the families of the victims, the Ozubulu Community and the entire people of Anambra State and strongly agree with the resolve of the governor that we must reject this criminal activity and all forms of crimes in our communities.

“We call on the police and other relevant security agencies to put all measures in place to ensure that the perpetrators are arrested and brought to justice. We also call upon the government of Anambra State and other governments in the South-East and Ohanaeze Ndigbo, to immediately initiate and conduct a public enquiry into the matter, with a view to creating a broad based security architecture for the entire South-East.

“Any investigation conducted by the authorities, must be seen to be free of corruption, and unbiased. We ask the entire igbo community across the globe to intervene as they can, within local groups to stop the growth of immorality and crime in whatsoever guise they may rear their ugly heads.

“Our prayers remain with the Ozubulu community and with the families of all those affected by this tragic incident.”
