CHRISMARY foundation,  a United States of America (USA) based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) has partnered the Anambra – Imo River Basin Development Authority (AIRBDA) to support rural communities with palliatives.

The palliatives which include 10 bags of rice, vegetable oil, and facemasks were presented to the AIRBDA in Owerri on Monday.

Presenting the items, President of the NGO,  Mr. Chris Okoye, said it was part of the hunger alleviation outreach organised by the foundation as part of its response to the ravaging Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

He said that the foundation has recognised the role of the AIRBDA in reaching out to those in rural communities with real need occasioned by the pandemic thought it is wise to use the AIRBDA as a point of contact to reach such ones.

He added that the outreach which is intended to cover over five million Africans has so far benefitted 2000 households in Nigeria.

“This is part of our hunger alleviation outreach intended to cover over five million Africans. We have so far reached out to 2000 households in Nigeria and we are currently in southeast Nigeria.

“The AIRBDA is one of the parastatals of government through which palliatives especially seafood can reach rural communities. So, Chrismary thought it wise to use them as a point of contact to reach rural dwellers that we cannot reach on our own,” he said.

In his response, the Managing Director of AIRBDA, Mr. Gerald Osuagwu, thanked the foundation for its humanitarian gesture.

He urged the NGO not to relent in providing help for the needy while assuring that the items would be judiciously used.

“This humanitarian gesture by Chrismary foundation is worthy of commendation. May you continue to help the needy in these difficult times.

“We want to assure you that the items which you have donated will be used for the intended purposes,” he said. (NAN)
