A Non Governmental Organisation, the Useful Youth Vision Concept (UYVC), has advised youths in Kogi and Bayelsa states to shun violence and other social vices before, during and after the Nov. 16 governorship polls in the states.

The Executive Director of the organisation, Mrs Adetokunbo Shonibare, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja.

Shonibare urged youths in the two states and the country in general to desist from taking hard drugs in order to guard against violence.

“As the Kogi and Bayelsa polls draw nearer, I want to call on youths and other Nigerians to shun violence and divisive tendencies along ethnic, religious and political divides.

“I urge youths to vote leaders of proven integrity.

“As we are all aware that the security challenges facing some parts of the country has affected our lives and socioeconomic development of the country negatively, there is the need for all hands to be on deck to fight the menace.

“No nation will experience meaningful development in an atmosphere of rancour; this is because peace is a necessary requirement for the development of any nation and peace is priceless and non-negotiable,” she said.

The executive director also enjoined the youths to get involved in building a virile nation by investing more on themselves, and acquiring knowledge and developmental skills.

She advised the youths to be law abiding and should always partner the government strategically toward nation building.

“I also want to appeal to people in other states of the federation to embrace peace, irrespective of their ethnic, religious and political affiliation, for the overall development o f the country,” Shonibare said. (NAN)
