BIBIAN Ekweonu, Anambra Co-coordinator, National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), has called on those yet to participate in the ongoing National Identity Card registration in the state to do so.

Ekweonu made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka on Monday.

She said the citizenry should see the national identity card registration as a civic responsibility and key properly into the programme.

She said the exercise was as important as the Permanent Voter Card (PVC) registration and urged the people to embrace it with the same level of seriousness.

According to her, the commission was targeting a minimum registration of 180 million Nigerians including children by 2020.

Ekweonu said that the commission had embarked on sensitisation programme of the people on the importance of the exercise, in partnership with the National Orientation Agency (NOA).

The coordinator said the identity card registration was free.

She further urged the people to also embrace other similar government programmes and policies because such were meant to better their lot. (NAN)
