THE Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has reiterated its commitment towards the fight against Coronavirus in the country.

NIS Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sunday James who said this in a statement on Friday in Abuja said that efforts were being made to reduce the person to person contact in the service windows.

He said that the service has temporarily suspended its operations at the airports, passport offices, and other offices usually patronized by the general public.

“Temporary suspension measures have been enforced on the processing of travel documents, residency papers, renewals and re-validation of all known Immigration documents for travels, residence and work permits within this period.

“NIS and its workforce at the land, air and sea border frontiers and hinterland offices are the first contacts with migrants who travel through these borders.

“The operatives stepped-up its Migration Management and Control measures in line with Federal Government directive on the restriction of International Flights into and out of Nigeria.

” And subsequent land border closure to mitigate against human mobility that aids the spread of the COVID-19 from person to person, and place to place thereby increasing the vulnerability ratio,” he said.

James said that NIS operatives as essential service providers were on stand-by, while emergency contact lines for contacting the service have been put up for assistance and inquiries.

“The numbers to call are 07080607900,08119753844,08147199908 with our officers working to provide helpline on phone,” he said.

The PRO advised all those in need of emergency NIS services to stay at home and make contacts through the emergency numbers provided.

He said that they needed not to visit the offices, for now, noting that temporary suspension of passport processing and migrant registration will remain in force until the order was reviewed in line with a government directive. (NAN)
