THE Lagos State Government says it has no plans to increase the price for the issuance of certificate of road worthiness in the state.

The Director, Lagos Vehicle Inspection Service, Mr Abdul-Hafeez Toriola, said the rumours were unfounded.

Toriola said in a statement that the stance of the Lagos State Government was to ensure that residents were able to process their Road Worthiness Certificate seamlessly.

According to him, despite the government’s investment in establishing 10 computerised centres across the state, it is not considering increasing the price for processing the certificate of road worthiness.

He, however, stated that motorists wishing to process their RWC should shun touts and visit any of the 45 VIS work stations or the 10 Lagos Computerised Vehicle Inspection Service centres.

“Motorists who process their RWC in VIS Zonal offices without a computerised centre are to visit any of the 10 LACVIS centres across Lagos with their referral note for a free computerised inspection. After the inspection, they will be issued an inspection report,” he said.

He assured motorists that officers of VIS and LACVIS had been trained and positioned to attend to customers’ enquiries and concerns in a professional manner.

Toriola said computerised vehicle inspection would also help prevent vehicle buyers from buying imported vehicles with mechanical faults which were usually hidden by unscrupulous sellers.

“A valid safety check is required before a vehicle can be registered. These tests which include the Autovin, are carried out at the LACVIS centres to know the history of the vehicle and all the modifications and alterations done on it, if any,” he said.

He also called on all insurance companies, vehicle documents processing agencies, car dealers and importers and all safety agencies to cooperate with the government to actualise the aims and objectives of the state government in ensuring total safety on the roads.

He said this would be done by insisting that the Autovin exercise was carried out before vehicle purchase and registration were completed. – Punch
