THE Federal Road Safety Commission says there is nothing `spiritual’ about ember months, except for the increase in human and vehicular movements.

“The period calls for caution as road users are always in a hurry to get to one destination or the other,”

Sunday Ajayi, sector commander of the FRSC in Anambra,  said during a news conference to usher in the Anambra 2017 Road Safety Week.

Ajayi pointed out that prevalence of negligence and recklessness during the ember months could not be over-emphasised.

He called on road users to apply caution, abide by road safety ideals and obey traffic regulations in order to achieve accident-free environment.

He added that 2016 recorded lesser deaths on the roads when compared to 2015.

The sector commander said the choice of 2017 Anambra Road safety week was due to the strategic location of the state in transportation business as well as the strategic goals of the commission on public enlightenment.

He noted that the week-long activities will feature public education on installation of speed limiting device, tyre evaluation and psychological evaluation tests.

Ben Osaka, Anambra State co-ordinator of special marshals, said they were the stakeholders out to ensure that the roads were safe and devoid of crashes.

He noted that the special marshals Unit intended to deploy more personnel this period to ensure that crashes were reduced drastically.
