MUSILIU Obanikoro, a former minister of state for Defence, has arrived in Nigeria from his base in the United States in apparent response to an invitation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in connection with N4.75bn arms funds allegedly traced to him.

Obanikoro arrived in Lagos from the US and headed for Abuja to keep an earlier scheduled appointment with the EFCC on Monday, October 17.

The former minister has been having a running battle with the anti-graft agency on allegations bordering on financial crimes. The EFCC is investigating a firm, belonging to his two sons, Sylvan McNamara said to have received N4.75bn arms funds from the office of the former National Security Adviser between April 4, 2014, and December 15, 2014. The two sons are named Babajide and Gbolahan

The anti-graft agency accused Obanikoro of using his children to take out government contracts that were never executed.

Besides, the former minister, on a separate charge, was also implicated in the Ekiti elections scandal.

Obanikoro who left for the US shortly after the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, his party lost election, had initially vowed not to return to the country alleging persecution by the government as a means to discredit him.

However, the minister arrived Abuja from Lagos by 7:45am and reportedly went to the EFCC headquarters to keep his appointment with the agency.

Wilson Uwujaren, head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC, could not be reached for comments.
