THE National Association of Otu Subawa Igbo, has called on federal government to promptly intervene over the deplorable condition of Enugu-Onitsha expressway.

They also want the government to expedite action on construction of the second Niger Bridge.

The association made the call in Awka, the state capital, while receiving brand new 18-seater bus from the Anambra State government.

Receiving keys of the bus, Pita Ejiofor, the national president Otu Subawa Igbo, said it was regrettable that federal roads in the South East had been abandoned, causing `harm and thwarts’ to socio-economic activities in the region.

Ejiofor observed that the completion of the second Niger Bridge would not only decongest traffic, but promote exportation of goods and services as well as beautification of the region.

The former vice-chancellor commended Governor Willie Obiano for his determination in transforming the state to enviable heights.

He noted that the bus would enhance their performance in promoting Igbo cultural values.

Presenting the bus, Obiano said his administration would always invest in anything capable of improving human lives.

“Promoting Igbo identity is sacrosanct. This is why we introduced wearing of our native attires on Wednesdays in all public schools in the state, in addition to encouraging use of Igbo language earlier introduced.

“We need to teach our children our rich cultural values to re-shape their attitude toward productivity,’’ Obiano said.

He emphasised the benefits offered by teachers in handling special subjects in schools, as well as those in remote areas, designed to encourage them to perform well by prompting excellence.
