GOV. Willie Obiano of Anambra State has expressed “immense satisfaction with Anambra people all over the world”, for heeding his call for massive investments in the state.

This is contained in a statement released in Awka on Monday, Jan. 6 by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, C Don Adinuba.

The commissioner said that the governor and his economic team had since the New Year been studying and analysing short-term reports from all parts of the state on the state’s economy.

“We are deeply impressed by renewed confidence in the policy of the state administration in the last two years, as all the ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) are daily inundated by an increasing number of organisations and individuals throughout Nigeria and beyond that want to invest in our state,’’ Gov. Obiano declared.

“Most of them may not be well known names or brands and, therefore, do not often attract media headlines, but they certainly mean business.

“Some are establishing branches of their businesses here and some are shutting down their businesses elsewhere to establish them.

“They range from furniture makers to producers of bottled water to modern supermarket owners to hoteliers, to restaurateurs to bakers to microfinance promoters to sophisticated furniture makers to manufacturers of toiletries like liquid soaps and producers of building materials,’’ he said.

Gov. Obiano described the “unprecedented interest in home investments as robust response to the state government’s “Aku Luo Uno policy’’, known as Think Home.

The governor noted that the new huge investment drive has seen land in particular appreciate in most places in the state, citing the example of Ihiala, where a plot of land measuring 100 by 50 metres had in the last two years moved from 10 million to N50 million in value.

“This is impressive by any standard in the world,’’ the Anambra chief executive observed.

The people, he said, bought into our Think Home policy because they see tremendous value in it.

“They are driven by patriotism and by market forces. Those who invest in Anambra State now make more profits than those who invest elsewhere.

“Labour is cheaper here, though of great quality. Security is excellent. Together with the Transmission Company of Nigeria and the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company as well as the National Integrated Power Project, we are attacking electricity deficit in Anambra State in a way no government has done in our history,” he said.

Gov. Obiano pledged that the state would see more radical developments in the New Year, even though the state receives one of the lowest allocations from the federation accounts monthly.

“Our limited resources,’’ he observed”, “have not stopped us from beating other states hands down in areas like education and security as well as in the rate of rice development, nor have they stopped us from being the first state to pay salaries, allowances and pensions every month.

“We will continue to be guided by  values like integrity, honesty, service above self and the common good as well as solidarity with the less privileged.

“We will, in addition, continue to employ the best strategy to make Anambra to remain the most competitive state in Nigeria, so that it will remain in every ramification truly the Light of the Nation,’’ he said.
