Obiano presents N10m to Fire Victims at Nnewi

ANAMBRA State government has presented a cheque of N10 million to fire victims of Timber Market, Nnewi, North Local Government Area, LGA.

Fire gutted the market on Jan, 5, at about 1.30 am and destroyed goods worth millions of naira. No lives were lost in the inferno.

The 10 million palliative was presented to the leaders of market at Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia.

Presenting the cheque, Gov. Obiano said the money was to provide succour to victims to assist them to recover.

He said: “as part of my administration’s efforts to forestall, recurrence of such disasters, government has relocated a foam fire truck to Nnewi to always get set to intervene in emergency situations’’.

The governor said he was satisfied that the traders properly utilised the N10 million provided them under the choose-your-project initiative.

Obiano, then, assured the leaders that the road leading to the market which his government was constructing, would soon be completed.

In his remark, Paul Odenigbo, executive secretary, Anambra State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, expressed happiness over the step taken by government to provide succour for the affected traders.

Bianca Ojukwu, former ambassador of Nigeria to Spain, applauded the state government for the initiative aimed at reducing the burden of the inferno on the traders.

Nonso Nnedu, leader of market, who noted that the fire started at an odd hour, commended government for coming to aid.
