A former Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Mrs. Titi Oseni-Gomez, on Thursday defected to the African Democratic Congress from the Peoples Democratic Party.

She announced her defection at the Nigeria Union of Journalists’ Ogun State council secretariat at Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta.

Oseni-Gomez who was the Speaker from 2003 to 2008, said she was also gunning for the Ogun Central Senatorial district seat in 2019.

While she attributed her defection to PDP’s age-long internal wrangling which she said had affected its fortunes at the polls both in the state and federal levels,  she added that she had consulted the party elders and other stakeholders.

She said no fewer than 5,000 members of the PDP who were her loyalists followed her to the new party.

She said, “After series of consultation across political circles and associates, discussions with leaders, elders and good people of my senatorial district, critical reflection within my family and my personal conviction, I have decided to join forces with the reformists by pitching a tent with the African Democratic Congress.

“It is a party committed to unity, good governance, and equal opportunity.”

A chieftain of the ADC, Chief Niyi Salako, while receiving the former Speaker said the party would give all aspirants a level-playing field and remain democratic in all its activities ahead of the coming general elections. – Punch
