Osagie Ize-Iyamu Wins Edo State PDP Governorship Primaries

PASTOR Osagie Ize-Iyamu, former secretary to Edo State Government has been declared the winner of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, just concluded Edo State governorship primary election. Ize-Iyamu won a total of 584 votes to emerge winner, beating his closest rival, Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, who scored 91 votes to take the second place.

Solomon Edebiri scored 38 votes to emerge third. The primary election to decide the PDP’s contender in September 10 poll was held on Monday, June 20, at the Lawn Tennis Court of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.

Presenting Ize-Iyamu to the party members, Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi and chairman of the election committee that conducted the exercise, thanked all PDP governors and members for their support which led to the success of the exercise.

In his acceptance speech, Ize-Iyamu commended the national leadership of the party and the electoral committee for transparency and fairness in the process. He said that the fight to reclaim Edo would continue until the party produced the governor in the September election. Before the collation of results, the three aspirants said that they were satisfied with the process, describing it as transparent, free and fair. He was South-South leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, before defecting to the PDP in 2014.

Ize-Iyamu will face Godwin Obaseki, who picked the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress, APC, on Saturday, June 19.
