THE office of the secretary to the government of the federation, OSGF, organised a five-day intensive sensitization workshop on “Public Service Reforms and Service Improvement” for its officers on grade levels 08-13 to sensitize them on government reforms and on the need for attitudinal change to ensure prompt service delivery.

Declaring the event open at the Conference Hall of the office, Olusegun A. Adeyemi, the permanent secretary, General Services Office, GSO, said the workshop was timely and important, as government had mandated all MDAs to leverage on the ease of doing business in order to give quality service to the public.

He said: “the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation attaches great importance to the programme because, according to SFG, the outcome of the interaction will aid useful decisions and implementation of reform programmes; and revealed that the head of the civil service of the federation, Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita will soon lead a delegation of 13 permanent secretaries to OSGF for peer review.” He further stressed that “the sensitization workshop is also critical to reform initiatives not because the two leading reform agencies in the country are the parastatals under the OSGF, but because the National Strategy for Public Service Reforms provides a common vision and a long term agenda to guide the rebuilding and transformation of the Public Service.”

The permanent secretary further mentioned that the objective of the workshop was to address the emerging issues in the newly established Department of Reform Coordination\Service Improvement in the Office on collaboration with other Units and Parastatals in order to engender attitudinal change for excellent service delivery. He hinted that “OSGF is partnering with Africa Global Partnership Support Framework to organize Africa High-level International Donors Conference on Reforms to mobilize international resources for implementation of Nigeria’s key reform initiatives.”

In their separate remarks at the workshop, D.I. Arabi, the director-general of Bureau of Public Service Reforms, and Nnenna Akajemeli, the national coordinator/CEO of Servicom, both challenged the participants on quality and prompt service delivery. Akajemili said: “we are working with the OSGF so that the office will be an exemplar on service delivery for all the MDAs to follow.” She called on the staff to be committed, responsible and accountable while serving the people.
