Najeem Salaam, the Speaker, Osun House of Assembly, on Monday acknowledged the progress the state has recorded since its creation 27 years ago.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Osun was created out of old Oyo State on Aug. 27, 1991 by self-styled former President Ibrahim Babangida.

Salaam, speaking in Osogbo, said: “We, lawmakers in the parliament of Osun acknowledge the roles of our past leaders in the development of this state.

“It is on record that Gov. Rauf Aregbesola’s administration, in conjunction with the House of Assembly, has redefined the narrative in terms of peace and development of the state; making the state toast of others.”

The speaker said in a statement that the founding fathers and stakeholders in Osun project would also acknowledge the impressive journey of the state so far.

He urged the electorate to support a credible governorship candidate with track record of outstanding successes in his or her previous engagement.

Salaam said it would be unfortunate to cling on sentiments generated by “political merchants’’ with a view to confusing voters to decide against the continuity of good governance.

He said that the political culture of each political party contesting the governorship poll should be examined instead of sentiments that blur the sense of reason.

The speaker said, “long after the lies of sentiment might have travelled, the reality of good governance would dawn on the people eventually.’’

He appealed to politicians to give room for peace before, during and after the Sept. 22 governorship election, saying that the overall interest of the state should be paramount to all concerned. (NAN)
