Over 2m voters collect PVCs in Niger – Official

PROF. Samuel Egwu, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner in Niger on Wednesday said a total of 2,181,400 electorate had collected their Permanent Voter Cards for the conduct of the upcoming elections.

Egwu, who made the disclosure in Minna in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) stated that the percentage of collection stood at 91 per cent.

He said that 211,850 registered voters had yet to collect their Permanent Voter Cards in the state.

He explained that the commission would collaborate with security agencies to ensure the safety of men and materials for the conduct of the elections.

Egwu said that sensitive security measures had been adopted to guarantee a peaceful atmosphere before, during and after the elections.

The INEC Commissioner, however, assured that the commission would be neutral and transparent and create a level playing field for all the candidates participating in the general elections.

He appealed to politicians to play the game according to the rules to enable the commission implement all the electoral process in a peaceful atmosphere. (NAN)
