AN Abuja-based NGO, Initiative for Leadership Development and Change (ILDC) on Monday urged public office holders to begin to patronise government-owned institutions.

Chief Ugochukwu Nnam, President of the group told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that increased patronage would revamp ailing public institutions.

He explained that the only way to improve standards of public institutions was for the Federal, State and Local Governments to compel public officers to use them.

“As soon as public officers are made to start using these institutions, funding and logistics will improve.

“How can someone be working and earning tax payers money and at same time spending it in private institutions or even in other countries? It is unfair,” Nnam said.

Nnam, while commending Gov. Nasir El Rufai of Kaduna for enrolling his son in a public school, said that the move demonstrated leadership by example.

The ILDC boss described El Rufai’s action as not only patriotic but imperative in the revamp of public schools in Nigeria.

According to him, such move should be emulated by other public officers in order to make public institutions especially schools more competitive.

NAN reports that  the ILDC is a progressive change organization set up by committed and credible exceptional community leaders of Nigeria extract.

ILDC is committed to engendering of progressive society through raising and projecting selfless and quality leaders in Nigeria to advance development, peace, prosperity and Justice for all Nigerians.

Its vision is to raise and project selfless, exceptional and quality leaders for the development and change of Nigeria.

It also wants to inculcate leadership qualities among the citizens of Nigeria, as we cannot achieve development and positive change without good leadership. (NAN)
