YOUTHS in Plateau have called for accountability in governance and advised the Plateau government to focus on providing good water and stable power supply in the next four years.

The youths made the call on Thursday in Jos, during a workshop organised by Centre for Peace and Advancement in Nigeria (CEPAN).

The workshop focused on youth participation in politics.

Mr Al’amin Ibrahim, a participant from Ungwan Rogo community in Jos North Local Government Area, said that the electorate had the right to demand for good governance.

“The elected officials are to represent us and have the responsibility to meet our needs at different levels in the society. Serving the people should be the focus and not their selfish interests,” he said.

He said that steady power and water supply were the major concerns of his people, and urged those in government to look at those areas.

Also speaking, Miss Lyop Pam, a resident of Kabong community in Jos South Local Government, said that the knowledge gained from the workshop would spur mobilisation of meetings by youths to demand appropriate action from elected leaders.

She said that Kabong community was in dire need of another primary health centre because facilities at its only clinic were being overstretched because of the community’s large population.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that more than 40 participants from eight communities in Jos North and South Local governments attended the workshop funded by the National Endowment of Democracy.

The workshop was organised to train youths in Plateau on how to engage elected representatives on good governance.(NAN)
