Police Nabs School Proprietor, NRC official over Illegal Sale of Government Land

THE Osun State Police Command has nabbed the School Proprietor, Olatunde Timothy Oke, a reverend and Olawale Abass, an official of the Nigeria Railway Corporation, NRC, in Osogbo, Osun State capital over illegal sale of Government Land with fake document.

The illegal sale of the land beside railway line belonging to NigeriaRailway Corporation, NRC, was uncovered by Adeniyi Alimi Sulaiman, executive chairman of the Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice, CHRSJ, who led the team that hinted the Policemen at Dugbe Divisional Police Station, Osogbo, on Monday, maintained that the matter should not be treated with levity so as to deter others who may have a similar criminal intent.

Oke, who is the proprietor of unapproved Rocks Model Nursery and Primary School located around Ajibade Street, off Olorunda Local Government Secretariat area of Osogbo and Abass, 54, who is the Junior Staff of the Corporation have been giving useful information to the police for further investigation into the matter. The suspects had allegedly damaged the farm crops worth of sum of N180, 000.00 on the said land.

However, Oke has disclosed to the Police that the land beside railway line was leased for him to construct new building of the school by the authority of the Nigeria Railway Corporation, NRC, in order to help him secure State government approval of the School.

Commenting further on the issue, Sulaiman who regarded the alleged document as fake because the said the letter was written without Letter Head Paper of the Corporation which also made the Police to see the latter as fake, calling on the authority of the Corporation to investigate this mindboggling matter by querying the Head of Osun State office.

The rights activist who commended the Dugbe Divisional Police Officer DPO, Supol Sunday Ominijo, a Chief Superintendent of Police for his prompt official action on the matter, described him as pride of the Nigeria Police Force, stating that his group had concluded arrangement to write a strong worded Petition Letter to the appropriate authority by informing them of the development officially.

Sulaiman, who is also chairman, Civil societies Coalition for the Emancipation of Osun State, CSCEOS, stressed that the officials of the State Ministry of the Education, should wade into this matter as part of their effort to checkmate the illegal Nursery and Primary schools across the State, alleging that Oke was planning to endanger the life of the over one hundred twenty (120) pupils by constructing a school building beside railway line.
