COMMISSIONER of Police, Katsina State Command, Mr Buba Sanusi, said on Friday that adequate security had been provided for Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly polls.

Sanusi, in an interview with The PUNCH, stated that policemen and enough equipment had been deployed in all 34 local government areas of the state.

He also said that electoral materials and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission were safe and well-guarded to ensure a hitch-free exercise.

The CP told The PUNCH that known flashpoints for crises during voting had been taken care of with the deployment of more men to man them ahead of Saturday.

The CP spoke further, “We are ready to go to the polls.

“We are very, very ready. Adequate arrangements have been made to provide security for INEC materials, the officials.

“I have just finished talking with some of the international observers around here.

“There is no cause for alarm, God willing. We have identified flashpoints and we have covered them. There is no problem or cause for alarm.”

The state remained largely calm on Friday, as campaigns shut down in many localities.

However, in Daura, President Muhammadu Buhari’s hometown, excited youths were seen chanting pro-Buhari slogans.

They carried his poster and that of Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and rode about in yellow-painted ‘Keke NAPEP.’

They kept shouting the now familiar “Sai Baba”, “Sai Baba” around major roads.

The President had entered Daura on Thursday evening after addressing the final rally of the All Progressives Congress in Katsina, the state capital, to a tumultuous welcome.

As expected, security is tight along the road leading to Buhari’s Daura residence. – Punch
